Someday, I plan to start writing about some of the swashbuckling board games I've played, but in the meantime I am interested in suggestions. If you can recommend any, please leave a comment!
I own a copy of Swashbuckler, but I haven't played it. I bought it on the recommendation of Steffan O'Sullivan in this review: http://www.panix.com/~sos/bc/swash2.html
I haven't heard of the other game you mentioned, but I'll be looking into it.
The original version of En Garde. (I think it was published by Guidon Games? Late 70's classic.) Played it before I spent decades studying & teaching Renaissance rapier. ~ Tom T
I couldn't find En Garde listed amongst those published by Guidon Games, but I did write something about a game of that name published by Game Designers Workshop: https://theoreticalswashbuckling.blogspot.com/2020/04/how-to-create-a-swashbuckler-in-en-garde.html
Thank you Sir! That's the one that I was thinking of. It's been many (long) decades. GDW & that cover art work. Your review is fair. Social standing is very important. (Well, everything.) We added a bit more role playing & used a period map of Paris then, I think it was, Flanders when the military campaigning began. Passed my copy on to one of my fencing Students long ago.
Swashbuckler is a game I've always wanted to know more about, if you've played it.
ReplyDeleteGascony's Legacy looks intriguing for a modern game.
